What is a balanced diet? Is it one of the myriads of wonder diets that promise great results? Is it a high protein or low carbohydrate diet, a low fat or vegetarian diet? No, all these have in common is that they’re dangerous!
The truth is everyone has different nutrient requirements, but we all share one thing in common; we need to have alkaline blood to stay healthy. Your body requires two or three times as many alkaline-reacting mineral elements as of the carbohydrates — yet the average North American eats at least two or three times as many of the carbohydrates — the starches, sugars, fats and oils from refined foods that destroy health. They are true “foodless foods”, loaded with chemicals, additives, and cancer causing fats.
The golden rule is to eat foods which are in the state actually grown or formed in nature. These will include genuine whole grain breads (without preservatives added), whole grain cereals, fresh fruits and vegetables-or vegetables cooked at low temperatures to preserve nutritional value, lean meats cooked without grease or fat, and dairy products.
If you can, try to buy organic to avoid unhealthy chemicals. Failing that, buy locally to receive fresher produce with more nutrients. And listen to your body’s signals; it will tell you which foods are compatible with your body’s requirements. The basic rule is if you feel healthy, have a lot of energy and avoid getting sick, you are running on all cylinders. If not, change to other combinations, but the absolute rule is: keep it fresh.
